Heated Blanket

We all know how cold it can get during the winter, but how do you keep your family warm and cosy and still save on heating bill? Well, you won't be surprised to learn that with the help of things like Electric Blanket and Wool Blankets, you too could save heavily on your heating.

Long since the19th century, blankets and wools, especially those made directly from sheep and other hairy animals have been used to protect people from the cold and unforgiven weather. Beside that, it was a common thing to use them to cover those with tuberculosis while they slept outside. But in the modern days, these blankets have become something that has come back into fashion once again. Because of the comeback, there are now a number of designs, sizes and qualities; and these are something you should look out for when deciding to buy one.

Quality: This is one of the most important things to look out for - because of the way most of these blankets are made, quality can be thrown out of the window. Make sure you check that it is made from 100% animal wool. I once used the Sunbeam electric blanket for over 2 years, although they worked very well, they also start flaking due to prolonged used and heating. After a few washes, it started getting heat patches and won't heat evenly. These are something that are common with synthetic blankets. Animal wool based blankets don't have these problems - hence we recommend them.

Size: It does not help to just buy something that you can't wrap around yourself. What good is it for if you still need something to heat you up when you already have an electric blanket? Always make sure that the know the size of your bed; and aim to buy something that is 2 sizes bigger. The reason behind this is that if it eventually shrink, you still have room left to manage. Again, most retailers won't take them back once open, so check with them in case you have a change of mind and want a refund.

Safety: The safety of the blanket is paramount - you don't want to expose yourself and your family to electrical problems and chances of getting hospitalised because of dodgy or faulty products. Make sure that the settings and fittings are well protected and are child safe. For those with young ones, this is particularly important - you can't overemphasis it enough.

Does it have switch controls that are child-proof? Can they still work when come in contact with water? What about pets and children chewing through the cable? These have to be checked. If you see any issue with one or more of the safety points raised here, then consider going for a simple Wool Throw instead.

Reliability: Buying something of quality does not only mean that it must cost over the odds, but it also means that you can always rely on it as advertised. Check that you are buying from a reputable brand. For example, Pendleton makes some of the best blankets and throws used by royalties and people the world over.

Cost: Remember, cost is not everything - there are places where you can get good bargains, look out and shop around. One way to make sure you don't get done is to talk to friends and get recommendations. If it means paying a little extra, it makes sense as long as you are getting something that will not shrink, have heat patches or not washable. Again, it takes us back to all the points we've made so far. Check that the blanket meets all those needs. Money shouldn't be the determining factor for not getting something of good quality.
